I often used to say that I had the best job in the world, working for the best organisation in the world and serving some of the most important people in the world: children.
After 17 years with UNICEF, in 2019 my partner and I returned home to Australia and I began a new chapter as an independent international child protection adviser and consultant.
Child Protection in International Development grew out of that transition. It has two purposes.
Professionally, it provides information about my consultancy work across the broad field of child protection, including strategy and programme development, child protection systems, justice for children, violence, harmful practices, child labour, alternative care, research and evaluation.
It is also a platform for sharing evidence, resources and ideas about child protection in international development. Through the blog, I explore emerging issues, question established approaches and contribute to debate about how we can better protect children in a rapidly changing world.
At the heart of this site is a simple question: how can we do better for children, families and communities?
My contribution is modest, but I hope this site provides useful evidence, practical experience and ideas that help move that discussion forward.
